Katerina Philbrick, M.S., LPC, C-NIP

Finding your ideal therapeutic partner can be a challenge. We want someone who “gets us” and is truly accepting of the whole package, while at the same time knowledgeable and skilled at effecting lasting change.

I invite you to take the first step in exploring all the positive growth and changes you desire. I look forward to collaborating with you in helping you to achieve your goals.

Bio

Hello! Katerina here! I am a nationally board certified Licensed Professional Counselor. I provide services in person and virtually in Connecticut, and virtually in Vermont and Maine (licensure pending in New Hampshire!).

Supporting individuals seeking a warm and compassionate partner in their growth and healing is the most important part of my work. More than any specific therapeutic approach I may use, or any coping skills I might teach, the safe and trusting relationship and space that we build is the foundation for everything else - without that deeper connection the work can feel shallow.  Feeling deeply seen and understood is a key component.

My education has been centered around the needs of women across all life stages. I often view depression, anxiety and other clinical presentations from a feminist theory lens, which points the finger at our society and culture as the root of much of women's distress, as well as other marginalized populations. This has led me to become a Women's Mental Health Specialist, and a Certified Midlife and Aging Specialist. Other certifications I hold are Nature-Informed Therapy, Sex-Informed Therapy, and Mindfulness.

Additionally, I am trained in Ketamine-assisted Psychotherapy (KAP), and facilitate this amazing treatment and integration. I am a climate-aware clinician, supporting those with eco-anxiety, climate-anxiety and related distress.

While a large focus of my work is on women's mental health and growth, I also welcome folx of other genders and orientations. I am affirming and allied with BIPOC, LGBTQIAPK+ individuals, couples and other family configurations.

As a mid-life career-changer in this field, I bring a rich and varied set of experiences, perspectives, life lessons and knowledge. As the beneficiary of that journey myself, I understand how challenging, and transformative, it can be to navigate change, healing, and personal growth. I approach each client with empathy, authenticity, and deep respect for their unique story, creating a supportive space where insight, resilience, and meaningful change can emerge.

My Therapeutic Approach

One way I effectively work with clients is from an Attachment Theory perspective. Clients with complex/childhood trauma have often had their early attachment relationships severed or damaged in such a way that their adult relationships suffer greatly. Keeping this in mind allows us to focus on healing some of those wounds.

From an applied therapeutic perspective, I lean on only scientifically supported treatment modalities, and integrate them to support each client. I draw from Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Nature-Assisted Therapy, Schema Therapy and Neuroscience to help with a wide variety of clinical presentations, particularly with regard to complex trauma, transgenerational trauma, desprssion and anxiety stemming from external pressures and expectations, and others.

Treatment plans are individually tailored for every client’s needs. I do not subscribe to a “one size fits all” treatment paradigm; but I know the positive impact that a collaborative care model brings, where clients play an integral part in their therapeutic experience.
